Cooperation

The majority of the experiments carried out under the responsibility and coordination of the EIG EURIDICE or the SCK•CEN, both in the surface installations of the EIG EURIDICE and the underground laboratory, require the characterisation of the materials and components used. The SCK•CEN has suitable equipment for doing this, this is rarely the case for the EIG EURIDICE. The latter consequently has to rely on other Belgian (including the SCK•CEN which is a privileged partner) or non-Belgian laboratories or bodies.

In the same way, the EIG EURIDICE has the equipment needed for the implementation of in-situ experiments (e.g. drilling equipment), digging and the construction of galleries and shafts that make up the underground laboratory, as well as preliminary studies, but these require a level of expertise in technologies and equipment, which the EIG EURIDICE does not have. In these cases, too, the EIG EURIDICE relies on private companies or external research departments.

These cooperative activities make it possible for the EIG EURIDICE to be in constant contact with state-of-the-art laboratories and enjoy the scientific benefits.
