VISIT TO THE EIG EURIDICE

The underground laboratory HADES and
the Exhibition focused on the disposal of radioactive waste in deep clay layers

HADES, in the heart of the clay foundation
In Mol, the underground laboratory HADES is located at a depth of 225 metres in the heart of the Boom clay. Numerous experiments are carried out there to find an answer to the scientific and technical questions concerning the possibility of disposing of radioactive waste at a great depth. A visit to the underground infrastructure is definitely recommended. We will be happy to welcome you.

A unique exhibition
The exhibition offers well-organised information about research and development activities dealing with the possibility of disposing of radioactive waste in deep clay layers. It shows the progress made by current research and sampling. In particular, it includes large photographs, drawings, models and prototypes. The underground laboratory HADES, where experiments are carried out in a deep clay layer, also comes under the spotlight.

Visit by European commissioners Loyola de Palacio, vice-president of the European Commission, relations with the European Parliament, transport and energy, and Philippe Busquin, review of the EIG EURIDICE infrastructure on 4 February 2003.

There will they receive an entry badge in exchange for their identity card. Do not forget to collect the identity card(s) after the visit!
